Established in 2021, the Asaase Foundation exists to support the civic and corporate social responsibility agenda of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd.
Its launch event took place on 26 February 2022, with a small but star-studded charity ball at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra to raise money to cover the cost of dialysis equipment and treatment in parts of Ghana sorely lacking in such services.
The event was in support of the Asaase Kidney Care Campaign, the social initiative that Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd launched in June 2021 to mark the first anniversary of Asaase 99.5 Accra.
Through the Asaase Charity Ball and fundraising efforts in the lead-up to the event, the Asaase Foundation succeeded in raising over GHC1 million for the Asaase Kidney Care Campaign.
Among the notable guests at the charity ball were the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, the former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, the South African high commissioner, Grace Jeanet Mason, the hiplife musician Reggie Rockstone, the poet Nana Asaase and the chairman of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
The purpose of the whole gathering was to launch the Foundation … We made sure to donate the first two machines to Wa Regional Hospital and Sunyani Regional Hospital. There are three other machines. There’s also been a pledge to treat at least one person for three months. The treatment is very expensive
The evening was a quiet marker of success for the Asaase Foundation, which engages in work around human rights, social and environmental advocacy and community-level action to promote social and political change.
The president of the Foundation is Kojo Mensah, the veteran broadcaster and launch host of the flagship Asaase Breakfast Show. The Asaase Foundation is a non-profit-making company limited by guarantee.
